Hi everyone, I am finally ready to purchase a Super Soco TC!  But I am having some issued plating the bike as an LSM, Limited speed Motorcycle, at the local Ontario Service Center.  They are asking how does any know that it is an LSM?  And point to this comment on the Ontario MTO website...

A limited-speed motorcycle is a motorcycle to which the manufacturer has affixed a compliance label, as required by the Motor Vehicle Safety Act (Canada), which indicates the vehicle type as “LSM/MVL.”

As anyone here platted their bike as an LSM in Ontario?

Were there any issues at the Ontario Service Center?

Was there a "code word" or definition that help you navigate the world of government forms and red tape???

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm also in ontario and have been looking at used Super Soco's until I found out they can't be derestricted and plated. In Canada, the only place to buy a Super Soco that can be plated as an LSM is from Motorino.ca. All other Super Soco sellers as far as I can tell are selling it restricted as an eBike. Once sold as an ebike, you can never get it registered as an LSM.

If you purchase as an LSM, you should be able to take your receipt to Service Ontario and submit the form to get vehicle registration papers as a "New Registration". You need to be able to prove the bike was purchased new in Canada, the receipt must indicate the model year and probably a VIN# or serial number. I was also told the receipt must show customer name as it can only be registered in this name.

This will let you register the bike, and one registered you can get plates.

I'm presuming you were planning to order from Motorino? I'm very curious to know how much you pay in shipping to Ontario and the steps you go through with Service Ontario to finally register and insure the bike. I'm sure there are others with the same questions you have.

It's ordered and on its way, hopefully, it gets here by Friday.  And yes from Motorino, so far they have been great to deal with and lots of compliments from the dealers I spoke to here in Ontario.

It looks like they do have "the sticker" but also come with a manufacture form that lists it as an LSM, spoke to the local Ontario Service center and with a VIN, sticker and NVIS (I think that was the sheet they spoke of) I should be good.

Also spoke to my insurance company and they have the Super Soco TC in the database as an LSM, so I am good there as well.

I will keep you posted.

Congrats on the order! Hopefully you get some good ridding in before the snow flies.

How much is the shipping from Motorino to Ontario?

What kind of speed are you typically driving at and how fast can it go?  Does it generally keep up with traffic and what kind of range were you getting? I was thinking about this bike or waiting on to see if the TC Max will be coming here

Saw this on the Motorino Facebook page for Canada...

"Motorino Electric Cycles: they don't have DOT version of TCmax yet. They said they are working on it but didn't promised it'll be ready for the next season." - 11 weeks ago

I don't think that we will see the Max in Canada in 2020.  From what I've read in the forums, the Max has much better performance and reliability than the original TC.  Personally, I'll wait, since I'm not about to spring $15k for a Zero or $40k for a Livewire, and there is no other plus 32 kph electric options available in our country.

I was in contact with Motorino re them getting the TC Max and on Monday they indicated the following re getting the TC Max "there are some importing requirements to be met and that will take months"

I've been waiting for the TC Max in Canada since last summer. In Dec. 2018 Super Soco said they were "rushing the North American version", basically DOT compliant lighting and signals. Summer 2019 I decided I wanted to get an electric bike, got my license and decided I would wait patiently for the TC Max. Motorino said in Summer 2019 they expected it to be available for pre-order around Christmas in Canada.

As of January 2020, the TC Max has not finished getting Transport Canada approval. It's unclear if they've even submitted their North American version.

Considering they've made no moves in the US either for the TC Max, I suspect they have more than enough demand in Europe to consume they're supply so there is no reason to sell lower volumes in North America.

At this point I gave up waiting, I'm not missing another riding season. I went out and bought a used Honda 2019 CB300.

NIU announced a very interesting motorcycle at CES in January, and Evoke is already selling theirs in Australia and is aggressively pursuing theirDOT-certified North American model.

At this point, I think we may see the NIU or Evoke motorcycles here, probably for Spring 2021, before the TC Max. Keep in mind once pre-orders start, it takes 2 months to get them here on the container ship. I'm thinking no TC Max in North American for 2020, and if it arrives for 2021, there will be more (and better options) by then.

You have laid out one of my biggest fears.  There's an electric motorcycle revolution coming that will bypass North America.  Asia and Europe present much better markets with bigger riding populations and inter-city public transit for longer distances.  The EM ranges are more of an obstacle here.  Italy alone likely has as many riders as the entire US.  Zero looks to have a monopoly for years to come.

I have been watching a lot of bike videos and the TC Max looks to be just the right size & speed I was wanting & the fact it is electric seemed like a real bonus with respect to cost and the environment.  Plus it looks like a really fun bike.  This country seems a little backward with respect to these vehicles as I also liked the ONYX RCR and the Monday Gen7 both of which would be a hassle to try and import and ride here.  That bike you have the Honda 2019 CB300 looks like a blast but that speed is a little over what I was wanting i think. What is it like to ride?  I have gotten the bug for getting some sort of bike the last year or so but have yet to pull the trigger.  The Super Soco TC is just a little too slow I think. I sorta just was looking for a city bike that would be max 80-90 km/h

It's not as fast as you think. The CB300 is just 286cc and while it can reach highway speeds to do a couple exits, I wouldn't considerate it a highway capable bike.

I was looking for a bike fast enough to deal with 80 km/hr roads with no problem keeping up with traffic. That means powerful enough to ascend an 80 km/hr hill without dropping below the speed limit.

A TS/TC cannot do that. The TC Max can probably do it, but just barely. The CB300 should do it confidently. Don't be fooled by the CB300 top speed of 140 km/hr. It's really not meant to drive much over 100 km/hr for very long.

I want as light a bike as possible, but I don't want a clown bike like a Grom. The CB300 claim to fame is weight. At 313 pounds it's the lightest in its class. Competitors are closer to 360 lbs.

The TC Max is about 220 pounds, roughly the same weight as a Grom but that's a clown bike. The CB300 at 313 is the same weight as a Zero S, and very similar to the Evoke Urban Classic.

I paid $4100 for the CB300 just last week so I've not been able to ride it yet (I'm from Hamilton area).

I will sell it and buy an electric as soon as viable replacement is available. Why? I've already had to stabilize the fuel tank and pull the battery to put it on a trickle charger for winter storage. I want an electric bike to avoid this kind of nonsense! It's 2020 dammit!

TC Max looks awesome, but I can't wait forever so I took advantage that this is the cheapest time of the year to get deals for motorcycle dealers.

I too do not want to wait forever until electric bikes are more readily available here.  I also am from Hamilton and just went down to Sturgess to look at bikes including the Kawasaki Z400 & the Honda CB300R both of which are nice looking bikes & are the size of bikes I like too.  I am going to take the motorcycle driving course on Mar 27 and after I get my motorcycle license I hope to get myself something to ride.  Maybe there will be some good news on electric bikes at the Toronto Motorcycle Show on Feb 20

Yes, it was down to a Z400 or CB300R for me. Z400 it was way heavier and way more power than I want. I was going to buy the red CB300R at Sturgess but it just so happened Burlington Cycle had the identical red 2019 CB300R used with 3.8K on it for $4100 plus tax. If it wasn't for that used one I woudl have bought the Red one from Sturgess last week.

Right now there is a factory rebate of $1000 to clear old models. This lowers the cost from $5500 to $4500. I got Sturgess to knock another $100 off. They also worked with the Honda rep to get me their $200 new rider discount (I had a coupon from the course but it expired in December). So basically the Sturgess price was $4200 plus $500 Freight/PDI. To save $600 I went with the barely used.

Once the 2019s are gone, a 2020 will cost you about $6000 (including Freight/PDI) plus tax. Still cheaper than a TC Max will be...but a lot more than a 2019 clearout model. BUT, if you haven't even taken the safety course yet, since you don't need a bike for that it's probably best to wait. There is always the risk you find in the course this isn't for you. It's rare, but it does happen.

That CB300R looks like a great bike.  Every Youtube video i have seen seems everyone is praising that bike.  I am a heavier guy 230-235 lbs and am a little worried about the size of it but I sat on it and it feels nice and saw a couple of videos with heavier and tall guys saying the ride was good for them.  I am guessing that you will be loving that bike

I saw an update on Motorino's website. They say they will have the TC Max available in Canada later in the summer BUT.....they are selling a restricted version of the TC Max limited to 70 kph and sold as an LSM. In their words, "Same as the TC, but more torque." I'm sure you'll be able to de-restrict it but at that point you're risking having your insurance voided. I'd rather not take risks with motorcycle insurance.

Wtf? The whole point of the TC Max was to bridge the gap between a TC (not fast enough for 80 kph roads) and a Zero (no need to go 160 kph) which costs $15K.

On the plus side, Evoke says they are planning north american availability this year.
