hello.

I've gone to use my bike today after changing out the brake tail lights and the bike wont move at all.

The bike power up as normal all the lights come on a ready is displayed on the dash but when i twist the throttle it doesn't move at all, everything else works at normal.

i just just finished a bunch of work on it namely adding new brake lights after the old set fell off. adding a new number plate mount arm and remounting the l plate.

Any advice would be useful as im planning on taking a proper look tomorrow.

Are your brake light switches working ok? They are the only things I can think that would stop the motor from turning without any indication on the display.

@lhk new brake light illuminates as expected both as standby and with higher intensity when pulling the brake lever.

@devian could be worth running the diagnostics via the app just to see if anything flags. If nothing them maybe try disconnecting the new light temporarily just to see if that’s creating any odd signals for the controller.

@lhk it looks like its the new tail light as when i unplug it bike starts moving. nothing came up in the diagnostics at all.

could it be the new lights are drawing too much power?

@devian hmm yeah I wonder if the brake light is pulling to much current through the controller and giving it the signal of brakes applied.

I have heated grips and additional rear running light powered from the dc to dc converter so I don’t think it’s a case of drawing to much power overall just maybe the brake light is causing the controller to shut off.

what tail light have you changed to?

@devian does this light use the same leds for running and brake light.

So in dimmer mode for running and full brightness for brake?

Yes. My brother has left a response at the bottom on how he resolved it though if you're curious. 🙂

Hi,

So my brother had a look at this, and thought it could be a problem with 12v being fed back to the braking circuit. He has had a similar issue with replacing a Lexmoto headlight with an LED one before where the bulb would stay as high beam/low beam no matter how he wired it.

He tested this theory by putting a diode (1N5817 Schottky Diode if you want specifics) that he usually keeps on hand for electronic projects on the 12v feed for the brake lights (not daylight running lights). This indeed resolved the issue.

He thinks that since the ground was shared, there was a possibility that there was a less resistant path to ground via the brake light circuit. However, the ECU must monitor that circuit to see if there's voltage there and if there is, cuts the motor (as can be experience when pulling the brake and throttle together).

My younger brother has been a huge help when it's come to my bike, probably resolving all the issues I've encountered so far.

Hopefully this will help someone.

@devian thanks for the feedback. Good to hear you’ve fixed the issue. Yeah kinda makes sense it’s feeding back a signal to the controller. Shame we can’t get hold of a nice wiring diagram from super soco for reference. We should be so lucky haha.

Definitely a good one to look out for and to be aware of 👍

@lhk

My brother said he'd love to get his hands on a wiring diagram for this bike. Anyway, knowledge gained and shared is better then never sharing it at all.

I think he said he'll make an account at some point on here. He is much smarter than me and will hopefully be able to share his insights.
